This is THE most beautiful village of Orne and the Alpes Mancelles!

For a guaranteed "wow" effect, make sure you arrive in Saint-Céneri via the D56 road. This will give you a magnificent view of the church and the pretty houses built at the foot of the stone bridge that straddles

the Sarthe. Listed among France’s most beautiful villages and characterful little towns, this protected village in its natural showcase was a source of inspiration for a number of 19th-century painters.

They all stayed in the village inns where they even went as far as painting the walls!

The Auberge Moisy and its curious "salle des décapités" ("room of the beheaded") bears witness to that era, as does the Auberge des Peintres. The 12th-century church where you can still see the frescoes will also surprise anyone who steps inside. Lower down, an isolated chapel recalls the legend of Saint-Céneri, an invitation to return to the roots, to be attentive.
